Ike Ahmed Biography,

Dr. Ike Ahmed was born in Price Albert. Ahmed’s skills and remarkable work in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of highly complex eye diseases such as glaucoma and surgical complications have earned him international acclaim. He is regarded as one of the world’s most experienced complex eye surgeons, and he has trained a large number of surgeons in cutting-edge surgical techniques.

In addition, he has been at the forefront of cataract, glaucoma,  and lens implant surgery research. Patients are referred to him from all over the world. He’s been asked to perform surgery on four continents around the world.

Dr. Ahmed is passionate about the development of advanced microsurgical devices and techniques for glaucoma surgery and convoluted cataract extraction and is involved in national and international research and medical education. Glaucoma medications, glaucoma laser, and surgical devices/techniques, angle-closure glaucoma, anterior segment and retinal/optic nerve imaging in glaucoma, cataract surgical techniques, and devices, and intraocular lens designs have all been the subject of his research grants.

Dr. Ahmed has created cutting-edge glaucoma diamond scalpels, microsurgical instrumentation, and devices, implants, and techniques for dislocated cataract surgery, iris reconstruction, and glaucoma implant devices. He pioneered innovative glaucoma surgery, coining the term “Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)” to describe a new genre of surgical approaches and devices. He was also the first person in Canada to perform laser cataract surgery. Dr. Ahmed has been asked to consult for a variety of companies and manufacturers as a result of his innovative expertise, particularly in the development of new devices and technologies.

Accomplishments  (2012-  Till Date)

His list of honors is extensive, with highlights including the Binkhorst medal, the AGS Surgery Day Lecture, and the UKISCRS Pearse Medal Lecture. He was also named one of Canada’s “Top 40 Under 40” – a distinction that applied not only to medicine but to Canadian society as a whole. He has received five film festival awards, six best papers of session awards, and a poster award from ASCRS, as well as an ESCRS first place video award and an AAO “Best of Show” award. To date, he has delivered over 750 scientific presentations, including 40 visiting professor lectures around the world.
